July 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told his officials on Tuesday that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had asked him \u201cnot only for jobs for [Uzbek] people but, above all, for supplies of meat and milk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t have enough land, they have no water,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s press office quoted him as saying during a government conference. \u201cWe have enough land and water, we can produce meat and milk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging by the press office\u2019s comments, Mirziyoyev asked \u0141uka\u0161enka during their meeting in Minsk earlier this month to increase meal and dairy exports to Uzbekistan, and the Belarusian ruler agreed, on condition that Uzbekistan would supply the necessary work force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The press office acknowledged labor shortages in Belarus\u2019 agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka reportedly promised jobs and a decent wage to Uzbek workers but suggested that they should go to countries like Russia if they want to make several thousand US dollars a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his talks with Mirziyoyev, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka revealed that he had invited migrant workers from Uzbekistan to come to Belarus with their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tens of thousands of Belarusian citizens have left Belarus in recent years as its authorities cracked down on political opponents and sided with Russia in its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Belarusian ruler\u2019s press office said earlier, around 5,000 Uzbek workers are expected to arrive in Belarus\u2019 Viciebsk region to fill jobs in agriculture, construction, industry and the services sector, with some also set to work as nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka turned to Uzbekistan after a similar effort to recruit workers from Pakistan failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
