July 21, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The 2566th Radioelectronic Armament Repair Plant in Barysa\u016d, Minsk region, has upgraded the transporter-loader vehicle used with the Osa (NATO designation: SA-8 Gecko) short-range surface-to-air missile system developed in the Soviet Union back in the 1960s, the State Military-Industrial Committee reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company modified the 9T217 vehicle to a 9T217-1B version. The vehicle is used for loading 9M33M2(M3) anti-aircraft guided missiles onto the launcher, transporting them on all types of roads and off-road terrain and temporarily storing ammunition, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The military plant, sanctioned by the European Union and other democratic states, completely replaced the lifting equipment, installed a remote crane control system and upgraded the radio set. It also mounted the equipment on the MAZ-5316 4×4 chassis, significantly improving the vehicle’s performance and increasing the number of anti-aircraft guided missiles it can carry, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The range of 9M33M2 and 9M33M3 missiles is 10 km and 15 km, respectively. Both types of missiles can reportedly intercept targets traveling at speeds of up to 500 meters per second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine, in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
