July 17, Pozirk. <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 interior ministry has added 22 new names to its list of people it considers \u201cinvolved in extremist activities,\u201d taking the total to 6,794 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six of them are reportedly serving sentences, including Alaksandar Ja\u017ee\u016dski, U\u0142adzimir Kar\u010de\u016dny, Siarhiej \u0160ach, Poland-based Belarusian Juryj Tra\u0161\u010dynski, Andrej Pie\u010da\u0144 and Alaksiej Pasieka. Charges against them ranged from inciting hatred and insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka to facilitating extremist activities and discrediting the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of 16 blacklisted persons remain incomplete, which means that they may be serving non-custodial terms. One of them is Russian national Anatoliy Voytekhovskiy, persecuted on defamation and extremism-related charges in Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksiej Bal\u0161ako\u016d and Pavie\u0142 Cimochin were accused of insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka, while the remaining persons faced charges of facilitating extremist activities: Illa Dubro\u016dski, Dzianis Jahora\u016d, Arciom Astrata\u016d, Maciej Sinia\u016dski, Ryhor Sieav\u015bcjan, Siarhiej Jaskaviec, Siarhiej Cupa, Anhielina Hruzinskaja, Maksim Kisiel, Alaksandar Papovi\u010d, Valer Kurat\u010dyk, Viktar Zielanie\u016dski and Kaciaryna \u017dohal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
