July 16, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The General Court of the European Union has dismissed a request by Lithuania\u2019s Biri\u0173 krovini\u0173 terminalas to lift restrictions on the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers via Lithuania, LRT<\/em> reported, citing the ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company was ordered to pay all litigation fees, including those of the EU Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court pointed out that it is not authorized to review decisions of the EU Council in the area of foreign policy and cannot oblige European institutions to change their rules or stipulate exceptions for transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada imposed sanctions on Belarus\u2019 potash giant Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij in 2021, accusing it of involvement in human rights abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania suspended potash transit on February 1, 2022. Before that, Biri\u0173 krovini\u0173 terminalas transshipped about 11 million tons of Belarusian fertilizers annually, LRT<\/em> reported. In 2021, the company reported profit of \u20ac16.1 million and revenue of \u20ac96.1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij holds a 30-percent stake in the terminal, but it had its voting right suspended over international sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2025, the General Court threw out Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij\u2019s appeal against the EU sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
