July 16, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja took part in the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado, United States, on July 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the discussion \u201cContinental Drift? Europe in Transition\u201d she pointed out the importance of maintaining European sanctions on Belarus\u2019 authoritarian regime, warning Europe against appeasing dictators or treating Belarus as Russia\u2019s appendix. She said that sanctions are the most important tool of influence on the Belarusian regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She expressed hope that US diplomatic efforts and Europe\u2019s principle stance can help Belarus shed dictatorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking part in the discussion were Billen Martinez Karbonell, secretary general of the European External Action Service; Theo Francken, Belgium\u2019s defense minister; and David van Weel, minister of justice and security of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
