July 15, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has discussed the employment of Uzbek nationals in Belarus with senior officials, announcing plans to open an office of Uzbekistan’s migration agency in Viciebsk to assist migrant workers, his press office reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uzbek officials also discussed compiling lists of workers and businesspeople interested in opportunities in Belarus. According to the statement, they would travel to Belarus in an organized manner after arrangements have been made between the sides on employment, accommodation and the provision of land and premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Tashkent reportedly agreed to launch new projects at 11 big livestock farms. Each farm is designed to accommodate between 200 and 3,000 head of cattle and has sufficient forage land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, authorities have identified 30 new projects in the Viciebsk region and elsewhere in Belarus, with a combined value of more than $100 million. The projects span livestock farming, wood processing, logistics, trade and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Planned projects include a large dairy complex designed to accommodate 3,000 head of cattle, several medium-sized livestock farms, and a facility for the deep processing of wood and the production of pellets from wood waste, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said that he had invited migrant workers from Uzbekistan to come to Belarus with their families. He made this statement after talks in Minsk with Mirziyoyev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the Belarusian ruler defended his decision to invite migrant workers from Uzbekistan in televised remarks during his recent trips to the economically depressed districts of the Mahilo\u016d and Viciebsk regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is intended to address severe labor shortages in the country, he said during his tour of \u0160k\u0142o\u016d district in the Mahilo\u016d region yesterday. \u201cWe cannot get by without hiring workers from outside,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka turned to Uzbekistan after his similar effort to bring workers from Pakistan had failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
