July<\/strong> 13, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong> European Union neighbors reported 1,188 attempts by third-country undocumented migrants to enter from Belarus outside border checkpoints in the first 12 days of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the number has increased 24.7 percent month on month, it was short of 2,053 attempts reported in the same period of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors have thwarted 9,074 irregular crossings since the start of 2026, including 7,891 into Latvia, 904 into Lithuania and 279 into Poland. The total is well below the figures recorded during the same period in 2025, when authorities reported 23,494 attempts in the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
