July 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus’ new passenger car market recorded its first decline of the year, with sales of new e-cars plunging by 31 percent month on month to 2,400 vehicles in June, says a recent report by the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The slowdown was particularly evident compared with previous months, when electric vehicles were among the fastest-growing segments of the new car market, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As dealership sales declined, imports of new cars by private individuals surged by 27 percent to 1,800 vehicles in June. The BAA said the trend suggests that part of the demand for new cars may be shifting from official dealerships to independent imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the decline in overall sales, electric vehicles continue to account for more than one-third of the market, BAA board member Ryhor Banaro\u016dski noted. Demand for electric vehicles could increase in the coming months after individuals use up their quota of duty-free imports, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian auto market entered “a phase of natural summer stabilization” in June, following record growth in the spring, the BAA experts concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the Belarusian car market expanded by 14 percent, with 158,700 vehicles sold, including 74,800 brand new cars and 83,900 used cars, BAA Consult Director D\u017amitryj Jarota said earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
