July 6, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly\u2019s draft resolution on Belarus has been amended to include a call on Minsk to implement recommendations issued within the Moscow Mechanism, the opposition Coordination Council reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initiated by the Czech delegation and adopted by the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, the amendment also demands that Belarusian authorities stop all arbitrary arrests and ensure full respect for the fundamental rights of the Belarusian people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis step became a logical continuation of yesterday\u2019s joint initiative \u2013 the formation of the parliamentary group For Democratic Belarus, in which Czech MPs took a direct part. The amendment significantly strengthens the resolution,\u201d the Coordination Council says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It describes the adoption of the amendments as a result of the joint work of democratic forces, including the Coordinating Council, which it says \u201cparticipates in the OSCE as part of a shadow delegation.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 33rd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is taking place in The Hague between July 4 and July 8. An additional resolution on Belarus, initiated by Swedish lawmakers, has been put on the session’s agenda. Representatives of the official Belarusian delegation, led by the chairman of the Standing Committeeon International Affairs in the House of Representatives, Siarhiej Ra\u010dko\u016d, criticized the draft, calling it “anti-Belarusian” and “politically motivated,” and urged the initiators to withdraw it. The final “Hague Declaration,” which includes the recommendations and resolutions adopted during the session, is expected to be officially adopted following the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OSCE\u2019s Moscow Mechanism enables member states to establish independent expert missions to assess the human rights situation within a specific country. To ensure impartiality, these experts cannot be citizens, residents, or appointees of either the country under review or the states that initiated the inquiry. This mechanism was previously invoked regarding Belarus in 2011 and 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
