July 3, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Belarusian authorities continue to avoid adopting the Kremlin’s narrative portraying Ukraine as a threat to Belarus, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in its recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysts\u2019 conclusion is based on the officials\u2019 statements following Russian sources’ reports of yesterday\u2019s drone attack on a Belarusian bus in Russia\u2019s Bryansk province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d, Belarus\u2019 Security Council chief, acknowledged the strike but did not discuss its origin, notably refraining from attributing it to Ukrainian forces, the ISW said. He also advised Belarusians to avoid travelling to Russia. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian officials were more direct, with Yegor Kovalchuk, acting Bryansk province governor, blaming Ukrainian forces at once. Boris Gryzlov, the Russian ambassador to Belarus, later described the incident as \u201ca deliberate strike\u201d by Ukraine. Kyiv denied involvement, accusing Russian propaganda of blaming Ukraine without providing any evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ISW noted that Russian officials had previously cited an attack on a Belarusian bus in Russia on June 17 to justify future long-range strikes against Ukraine. Ukraine also denied responsibility for that attack. The analysts warned that Moscow may seek to use the July 2 incident in a similar way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
