July 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Latvia reported 232 attempts by undocumented third-country migrants to enter the country from Belarus on July 1, the highest daily number recorded by its border guards since September 10, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far this year, Latvia has recorded 7,017 irregular border-crossing attempts, compared with 872 in Lithuania and 229 in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undocumented migrants have targeted Latvia for 99 consecutive days. By contrast, no incidents have been reported on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border for the past three days or on the Belarusian-Polish border for the past 10 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people seeking to enter the EU surged in the spring of 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, indicated that Minsk would no longer prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a transit route to the bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions imposed after the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland describe the migration crisis as a “hybrid attack” orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
