June 30, Pozir<\/em>k.<\/strong> Most of the Security Council\u2019s members who convened yesterday at Belarus\u2019 request called for an independent investigation into the June 17 deadly attack on a Belarusian bus in Russia\u2019s Bryansk province, the UN press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia accused the UN of applying double standards and failing to condemn alleged Ukrainian crimes, with Belarus echoing the claims. Ukraine rejected the allegations as disinformation aimed at escalating tensions with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 17, a Belarusian tour bus carrying 44 passengers, including 28 minors enrolled in a soccer program, was hit by a drone in Russia. Viktoryja Haro\u0161ka, the wife of a coach from the Re\u010dyca sports school for children, was killed in the attack. Six other people, including five children, were wounded. While cautioning against premature conclusions, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka suggested that a Ukrainian drone had carried out the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 permanent representative to the UN, Valancin Rybako\u016d, told the Security Council that Belarus has evidence that the drone that struck the bus was manufactured in Ukraine. He pointed to the crash of what he described as a similar drone in the Homiel region on the same day, saying it came from Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Rybako\u016d was rather reserved in evaluations, noting that a \u201cprofessional, confidential dialogue\u201d is ongoing between Minsk and Kyiv to exchange information and find common ground, describing the process as productive and expressing hope that it will continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna Yevstigneeva, Russia\u2019s acting permanent representative to the UN, blamed Ukraine for the drone attack, describing it as a \u201cpremeditated PR stunt carried out with bloodshed.\u201d She also accused Kyiv of blackmail aimed at \u201cdragging Belarus into a confrontation,\u201d referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky\u2019s ultimatum to Minsk to dismantle Russian drone control relay stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khrystyna Hayovyshyn, Ukraine’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, rejected these accusations, noting that that Ukrainian forces did not use unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in Russia\u2019s Bryansk province on the day the bus was hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyiv will not allow Russia and its ally Belarus to use the Security Council to spread false narratives, propaganda and disinformation or to divert attention from the ongoing aggression and grave crimes they are committing against Ukraine, she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat also referred to a Russian official document that Ukraine recently intercepted, which, she said, indicates there was no Ukrainian involvement in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
