June 26, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Torture has become a part of the horrific prison experience that hundreds of Belarusians go through every day, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has said on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, her press office reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe regime doesn\u2019t keep this a secret, it doesn\u2019t hide it behind prison walls,\u201d she noted in a video address. \u201cWhen people are released, everyone sees the horrors of torture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Alaksandar luka\u0161enka\u2019s regime now targets exiled Belarusians by holding trials in their absence, seizing their property and harassing their Belarus-based families, the politician said, describing transnational repression as \u201can extension of the same system of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja called for the collection of evidence of torture and other crimes of the current Belarusian authorities. \u201cWe must ensure that everyone who gave and carried out criminal orders is held accountable,\u201d she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
