June 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, speaking at a meeting today with the visiting governor of Russia\u2019s Moscow province, expressed indignation over Ukraine\u2019s ultimatum and warned Kyiv against drawing Belarus into its war with Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka said he had asked representatives of the Ukrainian president to tell Volodymyr Zelensky that \u201cif he thinks he can talk to us like this and draw us into the war on top of that, he should realize that the nature of the war would change instantly,\u201d according to a video posted by his press office on an unofficial Telegram channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be an absolutely different war. By the way, we have received the [Ukrainian] president\u2019s reply; he understands this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He went on to theorize that a hypothetical Belarusian invasion force would be confronted by Ukrainian territorial defense troops, and that neither side would want to shoot at the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCome on, would we be shooting at these tractor drivers, milkmaids and workers who don\u2019t want to fight Belarusians? Neither do we want to fight Ukrainians,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka said in the video posted by Pul Pervogo<\/em>, a Telegram channel linked to his press office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why, guys, let\u2019s negotiate substantively, without raising dust and shouting. Let\u2019s go about it decently, understanding who Russia is and who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka reiterated that Belarus \u201cwill be with Russia in any situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe understand what could happen if the West butts in again and wins,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His comments came six days after Zelensky gave the Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle four drone-control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf he [\u0141uka\u0161enka] does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,\u201d the Ukrainian leader warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, Zelensky said that the relay systems had suspended operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 23, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka urged residents of the Homiel region, which borders Ukraine, not to be anxious following Zelensky\u2019s ultimatum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus \u201chas everything necessary to protect its population from any aggressor,\u201d Pul Pervogo<\/em>, a Telegram channel linked to the Belarusian ruler\u2019s press office, quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
