June 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Ukraine needs to form more units to repel a potential offensive from Belarus, Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has told LIGA.net<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fears of escalation in the region have been rising recently, especially after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky\u2019s ultimatum to Minsk on June 19, giving the Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle drone control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukrainian intelligence reports suggest that Russia is increasing pressure on Minsk, with border guards warning that this could lead to provocations or even a new invasion from Belarus, Syrskyi warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After failing to achieve success on the main fronts, Russia decided to expand the area of its active operations in northern Ukraine, he said, adding that this would extend the active front line by about 160 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha warned that Belarus is showing no willingness to \u201cde-escalate\u201d and urged the international community to \u201cstay vigilant\u201d in light of the \u201cmobilization exercises\u201d currently underway in Belarus\u2019 western Hrodna region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army conducts drills on a regular basis amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
