June 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus views Mozambique as a \u201cstrategic foothold\u201d in the southeastern Africa and is ready to expand ties, says Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s congratulatory message to Mozambique\u2019s President Daniel Francisco Chapo on Independence Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am confident that Belarus\u2019 experience in agricultural mechanization, ensuring food security and modernizing the mining industry will contribute to Mozambique\u2019s economic development and the well-being of its citizens,\u201d his press office quoted the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Mozambique\u2019s military attach\u00e9 became his country\u2019s first military diplomat accredited in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February, \u0141uka\u0161enka discussed a potential joint construction of a port in Mozambique with Mabel Memory Chinomona, president of Zimbabwe\u2019s Senate, also citing the need for \u201ca foothold on the southeastern coast of the African continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we pursue this project together with Mozambique and Zimbabwe. . . your country could become a major hub in southern Africa for goods, not only from Belarus but from other countries as well. I think first of all of Russia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
