June 23, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>At least 100,000 people have faced politically motivated persecution in Belarus in the last six years, Ale\u015b Bialacki (Ales Bialiatski), head of the Viasna Human Rights Center, told reporters in Bia\u0142ystok, Poland, on June 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bialiatski, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and a former political prisoner, was speaking prior to the screening of a documentary titled Bialiatski\/Unbroken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime continues to persecute its opponents despite the release of some political prisoners, with more than 10,000 politically motivated criminal cases opened in Belarus since 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bialacki pointed out that the regime persecutes relatives of people who take part in \u201csolidarity events\u201d in Warsaw, Bia\u0142ystok, Vilnius and other Western cities. He sounded alarm over the ongoing crackdown on European Humanities University in exile in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bialacki stressed that the West should demand an end to all repression in Belarus. He noted that several hundred people had become victims of political purges in Belarus since his release in December 2025. He described the life of a political prisoner in Belarus as a \u201cdaily fight for survival.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citing the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime\u2019s support for Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine, Bialacki stressed that there are no grounds for lifting sanctions against Minsk. He described sanctions as a vital instrument of pressure and expressed concern about loopholes allowing authorities to circumvent them. He said that, for example, rapeseed oil had been purchased by Belarusian companies in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine and sold as Belarusian-made. \u201cI have political asylum in Norway and appealed to Norwegian authorities not to buy such oil,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
