June 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Kyiv can no longer ignore drone control relay systems in Belarus that facilitate Russian attacks, Yaroslav Chornohor, the Ukrainian foreign ministry\u2019s special envoy for relations with Belarusian pro-democracy forces, has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official made this statement today as he addressed a roundtable on Belarus\u2019 role in European security. It is being held in Kyiv a few days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle drone control relay systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chornohor noted that after the start of Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion in February 2022, it was in Kyiv\u2019s interest \u201cnot to focus on the Belarus issue,\u201d in part because Ukraine was busy addressing problems in the east and south of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Kyiv \u201ccan no longer turn a blind eye to what is happening in Belarus, because the regime of [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka used this period of relative \u2018calm\u2019 to prepare and build up its forces,\u201d he said. \u201cUnfortunately, he has directed all his efforts toward supporting the Russian army.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue of relay systems in Belarus is not new, and Ukraine has previously attempted to disable them, the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHowever, it appears that the official authorities in Minsk, possibly due to their dependence on Russia, failed to respond to Ukraine\u2019s \u2018quiet efforts,\u2019 which is why the issue has now reached a higher public level,\u201d Chornohor noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, Zelensky said that the network of relay stations had enabled strikes on energy and railway infrastructure, as well as on \u201cordinary cities and villages\u201d in the Zhytomyr, Rivne and Volyn regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
