June 20, Pozirk<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy\u00a0leader\u00a0\u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u00a0has called on\u00a0Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka to heed\u00a0Volodymyr Zelensky\u2019s warning that Belarus has one week to disable relay equipment for Russian drone attacks on Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a Telegram post on Friday evening, Cichano\u016dskaja stresses that Kyiv\u2019s messaging about Russia\u2019s attempts to draw Belarus into its war against Ukraine should be taken seriously. She recalls that Belarusian territory was used for Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, representatives of exiled Belarusian intelligence organization BelPol took part in an opposition-organized conference in Kyiv earlier this week to share their findings about the \u201cmilitarization of Belarus\u201d and Russia\u2019s plans to make it more deeply involved in the Ukraine war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUkraine is using the language of strength with \u0141uka\u0161enka because it is exactly what he understands best,\u201d Cichano\u016dskaja says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She urges the Belarusian ruler to end all support for Russia\u2019s war effort and warns that he would bear full responsibility for the consequences of remaining on Moscow\u2019s side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a video address, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet led by Cichano\u016dskaja, describes Zelensky\u2019s demand as an \u201cultimatum\u201d marking a \u201ccritical tipping point\u201d that Belarus had reached because of \u0141uka\u0161enka. He stresses that \u201cexcuses\u201d will \u201cno longer work\u201d and \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s should \u201crush\u201d to fulfill the \u201cultimatum\u201d if he wants to prove that he wants to stay out of the war against Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The warning by Ukraine’s leadership is no bluff,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka says. \u201cIt is a legitimate right to self-defense.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urges \u0141uka\u0161enka to also halt fuel supplies for the Russian army and warns Belarusians to stay away from any military facilities, as \u201cthey can become a target at any moment.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued his ultimatum to\u00a0\u0141uka\u0161enka\u00a0at\u00a0Friday\u2019s joint news conference with Nasry Asfura, president of Honduras.\u00a0Zelensky\u00a0played down conciliatory overtures by\u00a0the Belarusian ruler, including a recent apology for derogatory remarks about the Ukrainian president and\u00a0\u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s alleged assurances at the start of war that he had no control over Russia\u2019s missile strikes from the Belarusian territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky emphasized that \u0141uka\u0161enka continues to provide material support for Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian president, two Belarusian regions bordering on Ukraine host communication towers equipped with signal repeaters that are being used to guide Russian drone strikes on civilian areas in Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky warned that if \u0141uka\u0161enka fails to take action to \u201cremove or disable\u201d the equipment within one week, \u201cwe will do it ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky also slammed Belarus for supplying fuel for the Russian military. “We are doing everything to ensure that Russians do not have the opportunity to sell oil and, accordingly, to provide its army with diesel fuel and oil, because all of this is used against us,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, \u0141uka\u0161enka is the main supplier, or one of the main suppliers, for the Russian army. [\u2026] Can this be stopped? I am sure this is within his power. And he is precisely the one who is in control of this.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities support Russia in the full-scale war against Ukraine launched by Moscow in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u0141uka\u0161enka regime allowed the Russian army to attack Ukraine through the Belarusian territory, and for many months after the invasion Ukrainian cities were shelled from Belarus. Belarus has provided medical treatment for injured Russian soldiers and hosted Ukrainian children forcibly relocated from occupied territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
