June 11, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Artificial intelligence allows doctors to perform cancer surgery on patients that would have previously been denied medical treatment, Siarhiej Krasny, deputy head at Belarus\u2019 national cancer center, told reporters on June 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Krasny, AI-powered 3D modeling allows doctors to rehearse complex procedures and develop detailed intervention plans, which are executed \u201cdown to a millimeter\u201d when a cancer patient goes under the knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI view this as a breakthrough technology, as previously such patients would simply have been refused treatment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krasny painted a rosy picture of the alleged advances in cancer treatment in Belarus. Claiming that \u201cmany European countries cannot boast such results,\u201d he said that up to 70 percent of all malignant tumors are detected in Belarus at the first or second stage thanks to the government\u2019s screening program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-year survival rate after \u201cradical treatment\u201d has risen in Belarus, to 96 percent for stage-one cancer, 85 percent for stage-two cancer and 67 percent for stage-three cancer, Krasny said. These patients have effectively been cured, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian researchers have developed a new ultrasound diagnostic that has significantly improved the detection rate for prostate and pancreatic cancer, Krasny said. They have devised therapies that have pushed the five-year survival rate for testicular cancer to 90 percent, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
