June 10, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus between June 6 and 9,<\/em> with reports of Ukrainian national Natalia Batasheva, 62, held without charges at the Minsk pre-trial detention center since June 2025, according to the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus deported to Armenia Khatereh Khodadadi, Iranian dentistry student, over comments about Iran on Telegram, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases of reprisals included continued harassment of support groups designed to assist imprisoned people in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAYDAY TEAM reported pressure on family members of inmates serving sentences at Babrujsk’s Penal Colony No 2 in the Mahilo\u016d region. Their chat was not branded as extremist and made no mention of the prison, positioning itself as a mutual aid chat for people in difficult situations. Members decided to shut it down earlier this month after threats from prison authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court upheld the 14-year prison sentence imposed on media manager U\u0142adzimir Janukievi\u010d, who was convicted of high treason earlier this year, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported. His associate Andrej Pakalenka\u2019s sentence on similar charges was reduced from 12 to 11 years in prison. Both journalists were associated with the BAR24<\/em> and Intex Press<\/em> media in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days ago, Belarus\u2019 Investigative Committee opened criminal proceedings against exiled rock singer Kaciaryna Mankievi\u010d on \u201cextremist\u201d and \u201cterrorist\u201d charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, authorities thwarted 100 crimes linked to the financing of terrorism and extremism, State Control Committee Chairman Vasil Hierasima\u016d said yesterday. The official did not provide any other details, but was most likely referring to politically-motivated persecution of opposition initiatives and their supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers raided homes of people in the Brest region with alleged links to the blacklisted exiled European Humanities University, which is based in Vilnius, Viasna\u2019s local branch reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One in five of the designated political prisoners in Belarus is in the high-risk category, Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 10, human rights defenders identified at least 869 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
