June 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s visit to Ukraine two weeks ago does not mean that Ukraine recognizes her as the president of Belarus, the Ukrainian foreign ministry\u2019s special envoy for relations with Belarusian pro-democracy forces, Yaroslav Chornohor, told news website apostrophe.ua<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described it as a \u201cvery neat coincidence\u201d that Cichano\u016dskaja came to Ukraine right after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka had offered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to have a meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Chornohor, Ukraine views Cichano\u016dskaja as the head of the United Transitional Cabinet and the leader of Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged that there are other groups within the Belarusian opposition camp, including those represented on the newly elected Coordination Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is important to us that [Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces] are not anti-Ukrainian,\u201d he said. \u201cCichano\u016dskaja heads their best-structured organization\u2026recognized in the Western world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed confidence that pro-democracy forces would finally triumph over \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s \u201cauthoritarian regime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chornohor said that his mission is to advance the interests of Kyiv in relations with Belarusian opposition groups and \u201ccoordinate efforts with international partners.\u201d He stressed that Ukraine wants a \u201csovereign, free, independent\u201d Belarus at its northern border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chornohor did not rule out that Ukraine and Belarusian pro-democracy forces would set up a \u201cbig coordination group\u201d to tackle the problems facing Belarusians in Ukraine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja visited Ukraine from May 25 to 26, where she met with Volodymyr Zelensky and held talks at the Ukrainian foreign ministry. Discussions focused on regional security and coordination of efforts against Russia and \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky instructed the foreign ministry to appoint an envoy for relations with Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces following his meeting with Cichano\u016dskaja in Vilnius, Lithuania, on January 25. The appointment came shortly before Cichano\u016dskaja visit to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
