June 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 neighbors reported 470 attempts by third-country nationals to cross into the European Union outside official checkpoints in the first five days of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia has been the main target with 461 attempts, followed by Poland with 9. No incidents have been reported by Lithuania since May 31. Latvia has reported irregular migration incidents for 73 days in a row since March 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, migration intensity has decreased since June 2025, when 1,275 attempts were recorded in the first five days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2026, Belarus\u2019 western neighbors have thwarted 5.917 irregular crossings compared with 16,544 attempts in the same period of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
