{"id":190219,"date":"2026-06-02T15:01:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/190219\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T15:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:01:46","slug":"israels-high-court-clears-belarusian-born-gofman-to-lead-mossad","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/190219\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel&#8217;s High Court clears Belarusian-born Gofman to lead Mossad"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>April 13, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Israel\u2019s High Court of Justice has rejected petitions against the appointment of Belarusian-born Major General Roman Gofman as the new head of the Mossad intelligence service, according to <em>newsru.co.il<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petitions have been dismissed by a two-to-one vote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s senior civil service appointments committee has confirmed its earlier decision to approve the appointment, saying that it has not found ethical violations that could disqualify Gofman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Benjamin Netanyahu, who nominated Gofman for the position in December 2025, backed the appointment. Gofman is expected to take office on June 2 for a five-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roman Gofman was accused of ethical misconduct regarding his alleged role in the 2022 Elmakayes affair, where military officers under his command reportedly recruited a 17-year-old minor outside legal frameworks for online intelligence operations. Petitions to block his appointment as Mossad chief argued that he knowingly operated a minor, misled investigators, and subsequently &#8220;abandoned&#8221; the teenager when the youth was arrested for espionage by internal security forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in Homiel region\u2019s Mazyr in 1976, Gofman repatriated to Israel with his parents in 1990.
