May 31, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Territorial troops of the Lepel and \u010ca\u0161niki districts in the Viciebsk region have started a three-day command-staff exercise, the defense ministry’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reservists will drill “enforcing martial law and combating enemy sabotage groups\u201d in cooperation with law enforcement agencies and militia units, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A training exercise in both districts started on May 12, focusing on conscript recruitment through local mobilization bases, refresher courses for commanding officers and training conscripts for territorial defense tasks in cooperation with people\u2019s militia volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, a similar training session took place in the Hrodna region\u2019s Lida district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial troops, an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces, are formed in times of war or military-political tension of reservists with military training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years ago, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army is regularly conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
