May 17, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has acknowledged Norway\u2019s support for the Belarusian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy in her congratulatory message on Norway\u2019s Constitution Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, we celebrate a country that stands firmly for freedom and human dignity \u2014 values that unite Norwegians and Belarusians,\u201d she said on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s message stressed readiness for an \u201copen dialogue\u201d with Oslo, noting a \u201cgreat potential for resuming constructive cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja visited Norway several times, most recently in December 2025. Earlier that year, the Conservative Party of Norway awarded her the Sjur Lindebr\u00e6kke Memorial Prize for the promotion of democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Norwegian government has consistently refused to recognize \u0141uka\u0161enka as Belarus\u2019s legitimate leader and backed the country\u2019s pro-democracy forces. Oslo has also repeatedly aligned with European Union sanctions imposed on the regime in Minsk regime. Belarusian authorities added Norway to their list of \u201cunfriendly\u201d countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
