May 15, Pozirk. <\/strong>U\u0142adzimir Piarco\u016d, first deputy head of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, has urged staff members of government-controlled regional media outlets to update their list of influencers, authors and pundits for propaganda efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Piarco\u016d, information minister from 2021 to 2024, made this statement today at a forum in Hrodna. Recruited influencers should be able to \u201ctake to social media at any moment to counter any nonsense being spread from across the border regarding the economy, social issues, politics and other aspects of our country\u2019s life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information Minister D\u017amitryj \u017duk said that \u201ca battle for the minds of young Belarusians is being waged in the digital sphere.\u201d The official added that YouTube could be blocked in Belarus only if it posed a threat to national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the 2020 political crisis, Minsk officials branded most of the country\u2019s independent media outlets as \u201cextremist organizations,\u201d banished their editorial staff from Belarus and banned their content from distribution in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 21 media workers are held behind bars in Belarus, according to the Belarusian Association of Journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
