May 15, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>No negotiations are currently underway regarding the transit of Belarusian fertilizers through Lithuania, Delfi<\/em> reports, citing Ignas Dobrovolskas, an advisor to the Lithuanian prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful to the United States for its efforts to help address issues related to Belarus, including truck traffic, balloon incidents and the release of political prisoners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official did not comment on yesterday\u2019s statement by Foreign Minister K\u0119stutis Budrys, who reportedly said that Washington was pressuring Vilnius to resume the transit of Belarusian fertilizers through its territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania\u2019s position remains clear and consistent, as the country continues to adhere to and support European Union sanctions against Belarus, Dobrovolskas said, reiterating that fertilizer transit is out of the question under the current EU sanctions regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official also added that a technical-level meeting between representatives of Lithuania and Belarus would be possible only under the conditions previously outlined by Prime Minister Inga Ruginien\u0117, including long-term solutions to incursions by cigarette-smuggling weather balloons and an end if the migration crisis on the shared border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 19, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka freed 250 jailed dissidents following the talks with John Coale, US special envoy for Belarus. Later, the Belarusian ruler\u2019s press office reported that the US had lifted sanctions on Bie\u0142investbank and the Development Bank of Belarus, the finance ministry, Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij and Belarusian Potash Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania banned the transit of Belarusian fertilizers in early 2022 in line with US sanctions, while the EU adopted similar restrictions later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Budrys stressed that Lithuania has not changed its position on the original causes of sanctions against Belarus, and he therefore sees no reason to lift them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
