May 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Polish Sejm has voted 399 to 12 with three abstentions to extend restrictions on the acceptance of asylum requests at the border with Belarus for another 60 days, a local government\u2019s site reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland stopped accepting asylum requests at the border with Belarus on March 27, 2025. From that date to April 21 this year, Poland refused to accept asylum requests from 475 foreigners. Authorities only accepted 127 asylum request from representatives of vulnerable groups, the report said. One year before the measure was introduced, foreigners filed 3,130 asylum requests at the border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to enter the European Union surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that foreigners were traveling to the EU because they were \u201cinvited there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
