May 12, P<\/strong>ozirk<\/strong>.<\/em> Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath will pay an official visit to Belarus from May 12 to 15 at the invitation of his Belarusian counterpart Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d, the Sri Lanakan foreign ministry says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit \u201cwill mark a milestone in the bilateral partnership as the two countries commemorated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herath will meet with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, hold bilateral talks with Ry\u017eanko\u016d and Belarusian ministers of education and health. The official plans to sign several memorandums of understanding and agreements across various sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sri Lankan diplomat will also address a business and tourism roundtable organized by the National Export Center of Belarus and meet Sri Lankan students studying in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last October, the Sri Lankan parliament formed a Belarus\u2013Sri Lanka friendship group. Belarusian envoy Michai\u0142 Ka\u015bko was present during the legislative session that approved the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in November 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, bilateral trade stood at nearly $40 million, consisting mostly of Belarusian exports, primarily potash fertilizers, according to the data posted on the website of the Belarusian embassy in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have not disclosed more recent data on bilateral trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
