May 11, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Hunting establishments earned 4.9 million rubels (about $1.7 million) last year from foreign hunting tourism, posting a 132-percent increase compared to 2024, Siarhiej Cabruk of the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Anglers has told journalists in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 2,753 foreign hunters visited Belarus in 2025, he added. Officials authorized 165 companies to run hunting operations in the country, said Alaksandar Kazarez of the forestry ministry’s hunting department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forestry ministry\u2019s income from foreign hunting tourism exceeded 17 million rubels, marking a 147-percent year on year increase, he noted. Foreign hunting tourism grew most rapidly in the Homiel, Hrodna and Minsk regions, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus has 56 species of game animals, while hunting grounds cover more than 17 million hectares. Over the past 40 years, this area has shrunk by over 1 million hectares, due to the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, the expansion of specially protected natural areas and the establishment of no-hunting zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the Belarusian environment ministry reclassified the European bison, bear and lynx to a lower-risk category, from vulnerable to near threatened. In March 2024, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict authorizing limited bear and lynx hunting to control their populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
