May 8, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 interior ministry has added 25 names to its list of people it considers \u201cinvolved in extremist activities,\u201d taking the total to 6,603 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updated list features two designated political prisoners: Cimafiej Puha\u010dou and senior Ta\u0107ciana Stasieva, convicted in the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viktoryja Pata\u0161kina, Darja Kalinava, Pavie\u0142 \u010carniak, Alaksiej Kudzin, Alaksiej Kachanovi\u010d, Illa Silan\u0107je\u016d, Kiry\u0142 Lalujka, Ivan Kaval\u010duk, Illa Karpa\u016d and Alaksandar Rud\u010dyk are serving sentences on charges ranging from calling for sanctions to facilitating extremist and terrorist activities. Belarusian authorities use these charges to persecute regime critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of 13 recently blacklisted persons remain incomplete, which means that they may be serving non-custodial terms. They are U\u0142adzimir Padabied, Ja\u016dhien Kis\u0142o\u016d, Ta\u0107ciana \u017dura\u016dlova, Dzianis Ro\u016dski, Alena Kavale\u016dskaja, Alaksiej Ku\u0142a\u017eyn, Pavie\u0142 Drabu\u0161e\u016dski, U\u0142adzimir Ahiejeviec, Siarhiej Hry\u0161a, U\u0142adzimir Rym\u0161a, Ihar Malca\u016d, Ivan Kli\u0161yn and Kiryl Kiryjenka. Most of them were convicted on extremism-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
