May 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Latvian border guards used duty gear to force an aggressive migrant back to Belarus on May 3, the country\u2019s State Border Guard reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It noted that the man \u201cdid not react to border guards\u2019 orders to go back, behaved aggressively, threw stones and threatened border guards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the long weekend, from April 30 to May 4, Latvian border guards detained four people for transporting undocumented migrants and prevented an attempt by 28 asylum seekers to cross the border outside the official checkpoints. The detained drivers are citizens of Latvia, Moldova and Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia has been the primary target of irregular migration this year. It reported attempts by undocumented migrants to cross from Belarus for 41 days in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country\u2019s State Border Guard recorded 2,097 attempts between March 25 and May 4 (an average of 51 a day), including 216 incidents since May 1. That was a rise of 63.6 percent month on month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of the year, Latvia accounted for 71.8 percent of total incidents reported by Belarus\u2019 EU neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Poland has not reported any incidents for 18 days and Lithuania, for two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
