{"id":186386,"date":"2026-05-05T16:09:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T13:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/186386\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T16:09:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T13:09:39","slug":"at-least-2022-ngos-dissolved-since-august-2020-lawtrend","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/186386\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 2,022 NGOs dissolved since August 2020 \u2013 Lawtrend"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>May 5,&nbsp;<em>Pozirk.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>At least 2,022 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, were dissolved between the 2020 presidential election and April 30, 2026, Lawtrend said in a recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of last month, at least 1,240 NGOs were ordered to shut down, and 782 filed for dissolution on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 99 NGOs were shut down in 2025, 382 in 2024 and 336 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pace of NGO dissolution slowed down in April, yet coercive measures, including forced liquidation and other forms of pressure, remain among the primary tools targeting civil society in Belarus, rights defenders noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the completion of the re-registration process for religious communities in early July 2025, no comprehensive official data on the outcome has been published, according to Lawtrend. The group added that pressure on charitable groups, including criminal charges, has persisted since late January 2026, citing a recent case from Hrodna. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Committee for State Security (KGB) carried out a series of searches and detentions targeting individuals linked to social and cultural initiatives, in particular, recipients of foreign funding, the report said.
