May 4, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarusian authorities have released Mikita Jemialjana\u016d, an anarchist activist and designated political prisoner, after he had served in full the six-and-a-half-year prison term, Dissedentby reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 2,386 days in custody, he spent more than 648 days in solitary confinement. Jemialjana\u016d reportedly is well, and his health has not deteriorated. Authorities extended his prison term several times over alleged disobedience, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jemialjana\u016d was arrested in October 2019 when he was 19 and sentenced to four years in prison over alleged paint and Molotov cocktail attacks on a court building and Minsk\u2019s Detention Center No. 1. The activist did not deny his involvement in the attacks, noting that he wanted to draw public attention to the political prisoners in Belarus and express his disagreement with the government and its repressive policies. Human rights defenders declared him a political prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Jemialjana\u016d started losing his vision in the Hrodna region\u2019s Va\u016dkavysk penal colony, according to reports by the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
