May 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union is unlikely to change its position towards Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka as long as politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus continue, opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has told the 5th Conference of Belarusian Diaspora in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All exiled Belarusians should be able to return home without fear of being persecuted, she added. The EU does not perceive \u0141uka\u0161enka as a legitimate representative of the Belarusian people, the politician said, referring to her conversations with government officials from Germany and France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rumors that some countries are considering improving relations with Minsk are a \u201cmaneuver by the regime\u201d aimed at confusing the opposition and fostering a sense of uncertainty among its European partners, Cichano\u016dskaja stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Belarus depends on the current geopolitical situation, including tensions in the Middle East, the energy crisis is unlikely to prompt a shift in Europe\u2019s stance toward Minsk, she added. The opposition leader also pledged to do everything possible to ensure that this position remains unchanged until genuine changes take place in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
