April 30, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has praised the experience and professionalism of Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, United Nations secretary-general, in a congratulatory message on the occasion of his birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UN under Guterres\u2019s leadership continues its sustained efforts to consolidate international cooperation and counter numerous risks and threats, the Belarusian ruler’s press office cited the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of both external challenges and internal problems, it is more important than ever to remain determined to maintain the UN\u2019s leading global role and authority, \u0141uka\u0161enka stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus remains committed to the UN\u2019s goals and consistent in its efforts to address key issues of peace and security, the politician said, despite his past criticism of the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Guterres expressed concern about Belarus\u2019 human rights situation to \u0141uka\u0161enka at a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization\u2019s (SCO) summit in Kazakhstan. He wished that pardons for selected political prisoners would lead to complete respect for human rights in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2024, Guterres attended a BRICS summit in Russia, drawing criticism from Western leaders. The secretary-general held many meetings on the sidelines, including with \u0141uka\u0161enka, who criticized the UN the same day in an interview with Russia\u2019s\u00a0Izvestiya<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
