April 20, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Strong domestic demand and a rebound in construction will push Belarus\u2019 economy back into growth in the second quarter of 2026, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) said in its recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 GDP dropped by 0.4 percent in the first quarter of the year after 1.2-percent decline reported in January and January-February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 economic activity is gradually recovering, driven by stronger retail trade, which rose 6 percent year on year last month after a 1.6-percent increase the previous month, the analysts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decline in investment slowed to 3 percent, while agriculture remained a key growth driver, expanding by 2.6 percent. A 3.4-percent drop in industrial output, however, continued to weigh on the recovery, the EDB noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the government expects the economy to grow by 2.8 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Monetary Fund forecast Belarus\u2019 economic growth at 1.4 percent in 2026, while the EDB projected 1.8-percent economic growth. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development lowered its 2026 growth forecast for Belarus to 1.3 percent in its recent review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
