April 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Despite an overall contraction, the Belarusian economy is on track for recovery, the economy ministry indicated in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry noted that IT and communications, transportation and agriculture have been the key drivers of growth this year. These sectors expanded by 4.1 percent, 3.7 percent, and 2.6 percent, respectively, in January\u2013March, even as the overall economy contracted by 0.4 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry, the IT sector saw an increase in orders for locally developed software, along with job growth. The transportation sector was driven by a 9.8 percent rise in passenger services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also reported higher production of milk, poultry, pork, and cattle. However, the country\u2019s statistics agency, Bie\u0142stat, recorded a 3.7 percent decline in cattle numbers during the first two months of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industrial production in Belarus fell by 3.4 percent in January\u2013March. However, the ministry noted that March saw a 0.3 percentage-point increase compared with the combined results of the first two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also highlighted a decline in inventories and an increase in retail sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exports of goods and services rose by 13 percent year on year in the first two months. Goods exports increased by 8.7 percent, with notable growth of 27.9 percent in Latin America and the Caribbean and 21.3 percent in Asia. Exports of services surged by 28.9 percent in January\u2013February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government projects economic growth of 2.8 percent for the full year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
