April 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Some Belarusian political activists sentenced to \u201crestricted freedom\u201d terms at open-type correctional facilities have been forced to sign written statements acknowledging that they may face expulsion from the country if they commit another offense under the Criminal Code, the Viasna Human Rights Center has reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police compelled them to sign the statements while they were awaiting appeal hearings, before being transferred to open-type facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 authoritarian ruler has expelled political prisoners from the country since 2025, presenting these expulsions to the United States and the international community as \u201cpardons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 12, the International Criminal Court launched an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity by the Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a statement on the ICC website, the Office has concluded that there is a \u201creasonable basis to believe that Rome Statute crimes were committed, at least in part, on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a reasonable basis to believe that the coercive acts leading to deportation constituted a course of conduct against actual or perceived opponents of the Government of Belarus, pursuant to or in furtherance of a State policy,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Office also concluded that the alleged crimes committed by the authorities were encouraged or approved at the highest levels of government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, following their expulsion, the police annulled the passports of former political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
