April 6,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>At least 2,020 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, were dissolved between the 2020 presidential election and March 31, 2026, Lawtrend said in a recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of last month, at least 1,239 NGOs were ordered to shut down and 781 filed for dissolution on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 99 NGOs were shut down in 2025, 382 in 2024 and 336 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the situation for freedom of association in Belarus remained consistently unfavorable, with no signs of improvement, rights defenders reported. Any initiatives opposing Belarus\u2019s official ideology, even abroad, continue to encounter significant pressure with anti-extremism legislation abused to criminalize a wide range of civic activities, Lawtrend noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of late March, 339 new entities were added to the official extremist register, eight more than in the previous monitoring period, the report said. Dozens of civil society activists, three rights defenders and at least 19 trade unionists are held behind bars in Belarus in connection with their professional activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
