April 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Europe\u2019s real interests lie in restoring normal dialogue with both Minsk and Moscow, rather than pursuing new efforts to draw Belarus into the European Union\u2019s orbit, Siarhiej Panasiuk, Belarus\u2019 charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires to the EU, told Russia\u2019s TASS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRegarding Belarus, the EU should focus on practical cooperation in areas such as common and indivisible security, joint border protection and the fight against smuggling and organized crime,\u201d he said. The diplomat listed migration policies, logistics, exports of timber, food products and machinery as potential benefits, adding that Belarus could also supply the EU with energy produced at its nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Parliament\u2019s discussions should focus on cooperation, jobs, affordable healthcare and energy prices for Belarusians rather than \u201cephemeral freedoms, hypothetical values and European rules,\u201d Panasiuk said. Both Belarusians and Europeans would benefit from such a change, he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja called for an end to transnational reprisals and for continued pressure on the regimes that use them. Her associate Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka discussed the prosecution of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka in international courts during his meeting with Council of Europe officials in Strasbourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opposition politicians seek to hold the Belarusian ruler accountable for transfers of Ukrainian children from occupied territories to Belarus for pro-Russian indoctrination, crimes against the Belarusian people and complicity in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
