March 26, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The European External Action Service (EEAS) reaffirmed the European Union\u2019s solidarity with the people of Belarus on Freedom Day, which marked 108 years since the proclamation of Belarusian independence yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe EU will continue to support a democratic, sovereign and independent Belarus,\u201d it stressed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Economic and Social Committee expressed “full solidarity with the people of Belarus in their pursuit of freedom, dignity and fundamental rights.” “We stand with Belarus, their civil society, democratic trade unions, & independent media in their work for a free and democratic Belarus,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European People\u2019s Party group in the European Parliament noted that Freedom Day day symbolizes Belarusian statehood and the enduring hope of the Belarusian people for a free and democratic country.\u00a0\u201cWe believe that a free Belarus without the dictator [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka is possible and we will continue to support that future,\u201d it stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MEP Helmut Brandst\u00e4tter, who serves as the EP’s rapporteur on Belarus, expressed his support for Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja. He emphasized that \u201cdictator \u0141uka\u0161enka does not want independence. He has surrendered to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and offered his country as a launching pad for Russian war crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sweden stands firmly with the Belarusian people on their path to a free and democratic Belarus,” Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Stenergard said, reaffirming Stockholm’s unwavering support for a future democratic Belarus in the European family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United States Congressman Bill Keating stressed that hundreds of designated political prisoners are held behind bars in Belarus. “Belarusians will continue to fight for their democratic future, and the United States and the free world will continue to support them \u2013 today and everyday,” he noted<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Senator Roger Wicker said he looked forward to the day when all jailed Belarusian dissidents are free and able to pursue their goal of building a thriving democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
