March 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>\u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja met with Raffaele Fitto, the European Commission vice-president for cohesion and reforms, in Brussels yesterday to discuss access to European Union funding for democratic change in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition politician\u2019s press office said that Belarus can potentially expect support of hundreds of millions euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChange will take place sooner or later, and Belarus will need EU assistance for reforms and rebuilding the country. Cichano\u016dskaja suggested that work with the European Commission on possible priorities and cooperation projects should start now,\u201d her press office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician recalled that Ursula von der Leyen had declared a comprehensive plan that reaffirmed the EU\u2019s readiness to provide up to \u20ac3 billion for economic reforms in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja met on March 5 with Andrius Kubilius, the European Union\u2019s commissioner for defence and space from Lithuania, who linked the future of a democratic Belarus to the EU, stability and long-term peace in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
