February 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Car collisions with wild animals rose by 32 percent in Belarus last year, with 5,100 animals killed, said D\u017amitryj Matora of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Animals and Plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, accidents involving wild animals increased by more than 30 percent year on year, with 318 animals killed, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the incidents involved roe deer and moose, with a sharp rise in deer collisions recorded in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The steepest increase was reported in the Minsk region. The highest number of incidents was recorded in May and the lowest in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most collisions occur in spring, after sunset, when animals are more active, and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, when traffic volumes are higher, Matora said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that drivers are not held liable unless the animal is killed deliberately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police, 16 people were killed and 80 injured in Belarus in collisions with wild animals in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
