January 9, Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>. A potential move of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s office to another country would endanger Lithuania, Viktorija \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen, leader of the opposition Liberal Movement and deputy speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, told the PRANAS <\/em>YouTube channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Lithuania experienced an information attack launched by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime, which aimed to form a negative view of the Belarusian opposition and Cichano\u016dskaja in particular, said \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen, who had served as the\u00a0speaker of the Seimas\u00a0between 2020 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some representatives of the ruling coalition have fallen for this propaganda, seeking immediate popularity, she added, warning that the consequences may be rather serious. Certain Lithuanian \u201cradicals,\u201d whom she did not name, use the presence of Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s office in Vilnius to \u201cstir up emotions that serve their narrow political goals,\u201d the politician noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vilnius should approach its relations with Minsk from a position of strength to protect its interests, \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last October, Lithuania moved to downgrade security for Cichano\u016dskaja, who lives in Vilnius with her family. The announcement drew an immediate backlash, including from former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da, the decision was taken after a thorough assessment of the threat level. He argued that politicians were dramatizing the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late 2025, the Lithuanian police were tasked with protecting Cichano\u016dskaja. The move resulted in increased pressure from the Belarusian authorities on her team, her aide Dzianis Ku\u010dynski said a few days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
