{"id":166548,"date":"2025-12-02T17:52:26","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T14:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/166548\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"just-about-third-of-belarusians-aware-of-lukasenkas-plan-to-host-nuclear-weapons","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/166548\/","title":{"rendered":"Just about third of Belarusians aware of \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s plan to host nuclear weapons"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>December 2,&nbsp;<em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Just about one third of Belarusians are aware of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s plan to host Russian tactical weapons in Belarus, found a survey by Chatham House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of 713 Belarusian interviewed online from August to November, 21 percent said they were aware of the plan, while 32 percent said they were completely unaware of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only 19 percent were aware of the government\u2019s plan to host Russia\u2019s Oreshnik missile systems in Belarus, while 37 percent were unaware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just 16 percent of respondents approved of the idea that Belarus host Russian tactical nuclear weapons. The percentage has not changed since November 2023. Many respondents were wary of the plan with 34 percent saying they strongly disapprove it and 22 percent, somewhat disapprove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, the pollster noted that the level of approval rose slightly as authorities promote the move in the state media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll found that 27 percent of Belarusians support Russia in its war against Ukraine (14 percent strongly support and 13 percent somewhat support), while 38 percent do not support Russia (10 percent somewhat oppose and 28 percent strongly oppose). More than third found it difficult to answer the question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only 8 percent of respondents said they believed in Ukraine\u2019s victory, while 50 percent said that Russia would win, while 42 percent failed to answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey found that many Belarusians were unaware of political developments in their country, such as pardons for several 2020 protest leaders (11 percent) and the government\u2019s plans to bring in migrant workers from Asia (18 percent) and raise utility rates (19 percent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, the pollster recorded a new high in support of Belarus\u2019 alliance with Russia (44 percent), whereas 15 percent were in favor of closer ties with the EU and 19 percent in favor of Belarus\u2019 neutrality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRussia may seem the only existing option as rapprochement with the EU is perceived as impossible,\u201d the pollster concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/ru\/news\/122224\/\">Majority opposes Russian war in Ukraine, survey reveals<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 2,&nbsp;Pozirk.
