November 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Minsk has expressed frustration over the lack of communication from Lithuania regarding a recent fire at the decommissioned Ignalina nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian firefighters on November 26 extinguished a minor blaze at the facility, which is located near the country\u2019s border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry demanded that Vilnius \u201cprovide full data\u201d about the incident without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry, the absence of communication is \u201ccynical against the backdrop of Lithuania\u2019s constant demands for so-called \u2018transparency\u2019 with regard to the Belarusian NPP. We are observing classical double standards,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also noted that Vilnius had not responded to an offer of assistance from the Belarusian ministry for emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis case is not just an incidental omission but a manifestation of long-standing practices. The Lithuanian side demonstrates systemic neglect of its international commitments,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania suspended contacts with Belarusian officials after the 2020 presidential election, which it described as rigged, and has not recognized Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka as president. Vilnius provided shelter for \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s rival, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
