November 27, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) must adapt to changing security challenges and threats, \u201cespecially on the western flank,” Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has told the Russia-led bloc\u2019s summit in Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe situation resembles that of a besieged fortress \u2014 that is the reality Belarus is living in today,\u201d his press office quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician cited threats ranging from artificial intelligence and unmanned aerial vehicles to cyberterrorism and the protection of critical energy infrastructure, especially nuclear and hydroelectric power plants. All CSTO member states are affected by border closures that restrict trade and travel, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka also accused Western politicians of deliberately preparing for war, citing increased defense spending of NATO members and ramping up arms production along with what he described as \u201caggressive rhetoric.\u201d \u201cWe in the CSTO must respond to this and we are responding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlongside expanding their military capabilities, our neighbors are pursuing a policy of isolation and division,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSTO comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. However, Armenia has paused its membership and announced its possible withdrawal. Yerevan has accused the bloc of inaction during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and some of its members of plotting a war on Armenia together with Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
