November 25, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian law enforcement agencies uncovered facts of systemic corruption and bribery among officials in the processing and energy industries, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities opened 16 criminal cases on charges of bribery, embezzlement and theft through abuse of power, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The criminal schemes involved awarding contracts to specific companies as suppliers and selecting certain private entities and individual entrepreneurs as contractors to manage automated electricity metering systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The illegal remuneration and bribes ranged from 300 rubels to $2,000, while the \u201camount stolen through abuse of official authority\u201d exceeded 15,000 rubels (about $5,130), prosecutors said.\u00a0The suspects reportedly admitted guilt and agreed to reimburse the income obtained by criminal means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 300 people were convicted of corruption crimes in the first half of 2025, 7.3 percent fewer than in the same period last year, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of data by the Belarusian Supreme Court. Of these, 84 are serving prison terms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
